TRITON™ X-45 is a non-ionic surfactant produced by DOW, belonging to the Octylphenol Ethoxylate (OPE) series.
Compared with TRITON X-100 (HLB approx. 13.4) in the same series, X-45 has a shorter hydrophilic chain and is therefore more lipophilic, commonly used as an efficient emulsifier and wetting agent.

2. Main Functions and Features
- Excellent wetting: outstanding wetting ability in hard-surface cleaning and textile processing.
- Low foaming: produces less foam and defoams faster than high-EO surfactants (such as X-100).
- Excellent emulsifying power: especially suitable for emulsifying aromatic solvents, chlorinated solvents and other oily substances that are difficult to emulsify.
- Chemical stability: stable in most acidic and alkaline solutions, and compatible with anionic, cationic and other non-ionic surfactants.
3. Common Application Fields
- Agrochemicals: as emulsifier and extender for pesticide EC or SC formulations, improving adhesion and penetration on leaves.
- Coatings and inks: used as pigment dispersant and stabilizer in emulsion polymerization, improving leveling and freeze-thaw stability of coatings.
- Industrial and household cleaning: used in metal cleaners, dry-cleaning agents and solvent-based cleaning systems requiring enhanced degreasing.
- Biotechnology and pharmaceuticals: X-45 is often combined with tributyl phosphate (TnBP) for virus inactivation in human plasma processing (e.g. inactivation of hepatitis C virus).
- Textile and leather: as fiber lubricant and leather degreaser.
