3. Production Process
CHP is usually produced by the liquid-phase auto-oxidation of cumene with air (or oxygen) under alkaline conditions: the cumene is heated to a certain temperature (about 80-120°C), air is introduced, and the tertiary carbon hydrogen atom in the cumene is oxidized to form cumene hydroperoxide. The product usually exists in solution form (concentration about 60%-80%), because excessively high purity is extremely prone to explosion.
